WELCOME TO THE MUSIC MINISTRY AT MONROE FUMC

Our Credo: That music is a gift of God to be developed, nurtured, and shared. To that end we direct our energies, recognizing that music delivers an enormous impact on all our lives. That music, along with the other arts should be performed, taught, and learned with reverence for God’s power, which flows through them. That music for the church should be chosen with earnest attention to theological substance, character and variety. That music can benefit all who attend our programs, whether in active performance and ministry or as listening participants. Therefore, as leaders we have the responsibility to offer the best we have. That the music we perform should encompass a wide variety of styles so as to reach out to all tastes in the congregation. We believe Music is a gift from God.


Choral Groups -	The Chancel Choir is the workhorse of the music program, performing at worship nearly every Sunday of the year and at least two major performances each year. In preparation for their contribution they rehearse each Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and go on at least one retreat.

Youth Choir -	We are "under construction" for the Fall 2007 season. Sign up is underway and rehearsal schedules will be announced as soon as possible. Youth eligible to participate in this choir range in age from 12 to 18 years.	SIGN UP NOW!

Childrens Choirs -	For ages 3 years old though 5th Grade. We are also being organized for the Fall 2007 season. Activities will include singing, playing instruments, and movement. Schedules for rehearsals will be announced as soon as possible.	SIGN UP NOW!

Bell Choir -	The Wesley Ringers is an adult handbell choir. Membership is open to any adult who is willing to devote an hour each week to rehearsal. Attendance at rehearsal is most crucial. First UMC of Monroe owns a 4 octave set of Malmark English Handbells. Meeting are each Wednesday at 6:15 to 7:15 at the adult center.

Tone Chimes -	Tone chime choir for kids, Tuesdays at 4p.m.

Instruments -	Piano and organ are regularly used each Sunday morning for worship. Our church is blessed to own an excellent Steinway grand piano and a Moeller pipe organ. Other instruments find their way into use in the sanctuary: guitar, digital piano, oboe, trumpet, strings and other instruments are used to enhance our worship experience in music. Our membership who play instruments are encouraged to offer their gifts.
